This is a really good question and deserves a longer response or article. The short is that it’s probably less valuable to be a non-tech PM in a PM organization that values this as pre-requisite. You’ll always be pushing a rock uphill.

Fortunately there are many organizations who value PMs who can connect their customers to the product. That is often a blend of a sales and marketing and an analytical mindset. As tech platforms mature, companies that find product fit aren’t always doing so due to a technical breakthrough. So many PM organizations are evolving, and you might find these to be more interesting and less challenging to find a foothold and grow.
